MICHAEL KORS LAURYN MK4388 WOMEN'S WATCH

Whether you follow fashion or not, you would’ve most certainly seen, or heard of Michael Kors. The eponymous label is one of few American fashion houses still being led by their founders.

Kors is a brand known by many whether you’re a fan of his work or not, his achievements throughout his colourful career speak volumes about his abilities as a designer. He was the women’s ready-to-wear designer for the French high-fashion house, Celine, from 1997 to 2003, and in 2013, was honored with the 2013 Couture award for artistry and fashion by the Couture Council of the museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology. His designs are bold, yet elegant, iconic, and empowering.

From couture gala dresses to distinct handbags, to footwear and accessories. And it is to his accessories that we are looking at today, specifically; Watches. These designer timepieces are bold, recognizable and impeccably refined with an air of confident sophistication.

While most high-fashion labels offer luxury designer timepieces at luxury designer prices. Michael Kors on the other hand, offers, chic, modern and bold designs ranging in the hundreds. A much more accessible price point for the masses, especially for a fashion piece. Today, we’ll be taking a look at one of our favourite designs from the designer; The Lauryn MK4838, a timepiece that in our opinion, perfectly carries the ethos of design and value that Kors is so known for.

There’s no getting around it, the Lauryn MK4838 is a beautifully novel timepiece that you should certainly pay attention to and it’s a strong contender to be my favourite looking piece out of the Michael Kors collection. First off, it’s a simple watch, with a simple rounded stainless-steel case, a dainty rose-gold crystal embedded bezel, leading to elegant slim lugs that links to a simple 3 link 2-tone bracelet with crystal encrusted center links, and of course, a simple white mother-of-pearl dial with 3 hands telling only the time and not even the date.

So why is this simple (and borderline boring sounding) timepiece worthy of your attention? Well because its beauty, and simplicity is executed wonderfully. The dial, simple as it is, has lovely applied indexes in rather novel and unique shapes; alternating between pyramids, stars and finished with a tiny MK logo at 12 O’clock. It sounds like a mess on paper doesn’t it? But the reality is much, much better. The novel indexes really remind me a lot of the novelty timepieces from Van Cleef and Arpels’ Poetic Complications (albeit mechanically speaking and pricing wise, they’re on two completely different planets).

The dial being like the galaxy with the stars and the pyramids (which, fun-fact in ancient times, were in fact built to align with the stars and constellations). It really casts a romantic dreamy image doesn’t it? I’m a sucker for novelty pieces like these, my favourites being the aforementioned Van Cleef and Arpels Midnight in Paris, and A Lange & Sohne’s Aventurine dialled Saxonia. But these are incredibly cost inhibitive watches and unless you’re willing to shell out a car’s down-payment worth for them (the most affordable being the Lange coming in at an eye watering USD $22,000), the Lauryn MK4838 is a fantastic substitute, and a beautifully charming one at that too.

Verdict

If you’re in the market for a novel and timeless fashion watch but aren’t looking to break the bank, then Michael Kors certainly has you covered with the beautiful Lauryn MK4838. No matter the occasion, whether formal or casual, there’s no situation where the Lauryn MK4838 wouldn’t fit right at home on your wrist. And with that stunning dial, you’ll certainly find yourself smiling a lot whenever you look at it.
